Tasting Note
Inky dark ruby with floral violets, ripe blackberry and black cherry, licorice, tobacco and baking spice; very full-bodied, concentrated, velvety yet firm tannins and a long cocoa-tinged finish.
Food Pairing
Western: Stilton or other blue cheeses, dark chocolate desserts, sticky toffee pudding, roast venison. Asian: Peking duck, char siu (BBQ pork), five-spice braised pork belly, sweet red-bean desserts.
Production Method
Traditional Douro lagares foot-treading and plunger fermentation, fortified with aguardente (grape spirit) to arrest fermentation, matured in oak casks and bottle-aged.
