Tasting Note
Opaque purple with concentrated blackberry and blackcurrant, licorice, floral (rose), eucalyptus/mint, tobacco and dark chocolate notes. Velvety yet firm tannins, lush sweetness and a long, persistent finish.
Food Pairing
Western: Stilton/blue cheese, dark chocolate desserts, chocolate tart, foie gras, roast lamb or venison. Asian: Peking duck, Chinese red-braised pork (hong shao rou), char siu, miso-glazed dishes, rich Southeast Asian chocolate-spiced desserts.
Production Method
Grapes traditionally trodden in lagares or fermented in vats; fermentation halted by adding grape spirit (fortification). Aged in large oak casks then bottled to mature for decades in Warre’s cellars.
Vineyard Info
Warre’s (owned by the Symington family) is one of the oldest Port houses, sourcing grapes from its Quintas (Cavadinha, Retiro). Renowned for a floral, elegant Vintage Port style and long cellar ageing.
