Tasting Note
Elegant, medium-bodied Rioja: bright cherry and dried red berries with earth, leather, cedar, tobacco and vanilla. Refined silky tannins, lively acidity and a long, spicy finish; shows complex tertiary notes with age.
Food Pairing
Western: roast lamb, suckling pig, beef, game, charcuterie, aged sheep cheeses. Asian: Peking duck, char siu, Korean BBQ (bulgogi), umami-rich Sichuan dishes, grilled yakitori and miso-glazed dishes.
Production Method
Hand-harvested estate fruit; traditional spontaneous fermentation in old oak, aged ~6 years in American oak barriques then moved to large casks and long bottle ageing; often bottled unfiltered.
Vineyard Info
Bodegas R. López de Heredia (family-owned since 1877). Wines made from estate Viña Tondonia parcels near Haro using traditional methods and long ageing. Renowned for patience and cellar ageing.
