Awards/Ratings
Key scores: James Suckling 95, Tim Atkin 95, Wine Advocate (Luis Gutiérrez) 93, Peñín 94. typical release after long barrel ageing
Tasting Note
Deep ruby with orange rim; savory earthy red berries, tobacco, walnut, mushroom and five-spice notes. High acidity, fine firm tannins and a long citrusy, tertiary finish with subtle caramel.
Food Pairing
Roast lamb, braised beef/stew, grilled chorizo, aged Manchego; Asian: Peking duck, char siu (BBQ pork), Korean bulgogi, miso-glazed aubergine—rich umami and fatty meats complement the wine's acidity and savory tannins.
Production Method
Hand-harvested; fermented traditionally and aged 5–6 years in used American oak barrels, hand racked (twice yearly), fined with egg whites and bottled unfiltered.
Vineyard Info
R. López de Heredia (Viña Tondonia) — family-owned since c.1877, four generations preserving traditional winemaking and long barrel/bottle ageing; Viña Bosconia sits on south-facing limestone-clay slopes (c.15 ha).
