Awards/Ratings
VDP. GROSSE LAGE / VDP. Grosses Gewächs classification; Falstaff 94+ (2023) tasting praise; high scores from international critics for Niederberg-Helden bottlings across vintages (James Suckling, Vinous, Wine Enthusiast)
Tasting Note
A dry, mineral-driven Riesling: wet slate, citrus zest, nettle and bay-leaf notes with creamy mid-palate, bright slatey acidity and a long, saline finish. Intense minerality and elegant fruit concentration.
Food Pairing
Grilled/roasted white fish, sole meunière, shellfish (scallops), roast chicken, pork loin, goat cheese; Asian: sushi/sashimi, tempura, Thai green curry, Vietnamese spring rolls, grilled miso-glazed fish.
Production Method
Hand-harvested, naturnahe (eco-friendly) vineyard work; spontaneous/native-yeast fermentation, stainless steel élevage; made as a VDP.Grosses Gewächs from old, ungrafted vines on Devonian blue slate.
Vineyard Info
Produced by Weingut Schloss Lieser (Thomas Haag), estate on the Mosel at Lieser. Niederberg Helden is a merged Grosse Lage site (south-facing, steep, blue Devonian slate, old vines) long-used for both dry GG and sweet wines.
