Awards/Ratings
Wine Advocate (Stephan Reinhardt) — high praise / cited as 96 for Goldkapsel in many listings; Falstaff 94; John Gilman ~93; Vinous/Ju. reviews for related Lieser bottlings
Tasting Note
Lush, intensely sweet Riesling: apricot, yellow peach, mango, blood orange, honey and slate; bright citrus acidity and saline minerality balance the sweetness for a long, piquant finish.
Food Pairing
Western: foie gras, blue cheese (Roquefort), fruit tarts, roast pork with apple glaze, smoked salmon. Asian: spicy Thai curry, Szechuan dishes, Korean BBQ, Peking duck, sweet-sour Chinese pork.
Production Method
Late-harvest Auslese (Goldkapsel) from hand-picked grapes; roughly 35–40% botrytized fruit in 2017, cool fermentation (stainless steel) with fermentation arrested to retain residual sugar.
Vineyard Info
Weingut Schloss Lieser (founded 1904) was revived and is run by Thomas Haag (owner since 1997). Niederberg-Helden is a merged Grosse Lage vineyard east of Lieser on steep south-facing slopes of blue Devonian slate.
