Awards/Ratings
Retail and specialist listings for Vinha dos Novos/Monte Meão cite high scores for select vintages (James Suckling ~95; Wine Enthusiast ~94) and strong press for related Vale Meão wines (Robert Parker/WA and Decanter scores in the mid-90s)
Tasting Note
Bright ruby; floral violets and bergamot over ripe red and black berries, sweet spice and subtle cocoa. Juicy acidity, fine suede-like tannins and mineral precision; elegant, long finish.
Food Pairing
Western: roast lamb, braised beef, venison, mushroom risotto, aged cheese. Asian: Peking duck, char siu, Korean BBQ, beef rendang, Sichuan-style dishes.
Production Method
100% Touriga Nacional from a single vineyard on granitic soils. Fermented with selected yeasts; traditional vinification and ~15 months ageing in 225L French oak (predominantly used barrels).
Vineyard Info
Produced by Quinta do Vale Meão (Monte Meão), a historic Douro estate revived by Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira and owned by F. Olazabal & Filhos since 1998. Vinha dos Novos planted c.1996.
