Awards/Ratings
Highly praised by critics for 2022 (FINE+RARE average ~98/100). Reviewed by Neal Martin and Victoria Mason MW (97); Porseleinberg vintages have previously earned 96–99 points from critics such as Stephen Tanzer and Tim Atkin
Tasting Note
Perfumed violet and white-pepper aromatics over dark bramble fruit, with herbal/olive and iron notes. Medium-bodied, fine peppery tannins, saline stony minerality and a long, savory finish.
Food Pairing
Grilled lamb, roast beef, venison, charcuterie and aged hard cheeses; Korean BBQ, char siu, Peking duck, Sichuan-spiced dishes, teriyaki beef, miso-glazed eggplant.
Production Method
100% whole-bunch Syrah; largely submerged-cap fermentation with some conventional ferments; aged predominantly in large foudres and a small portion in concrete eggs; minimal new oak, low-intervention approach.
Vineyard Info
Single-site Syrah estate owned by Boekenhoutskloof, established 2009 and managed by Callie Louw. Low-yield, sustainably farmed on Porseleinberg's schist and kaolin-rich soils; cult single-vineyard production.
