Awards/Ratings
Praised by critics for intensity and persistence; Vinous publishes tasting notes on Villa wines and local merchants quote Vinous tasting language. Vivino community average ~4. 4/5
Tasting Note
Mineral-driven and perfumed: blackberry, blueberry, violet, smoked bacon and exotic spice with graphite and saline minerality. Dense, velvety texture, youthful gripping tannins and very long, stony finish.
Food Pairing
Western: roast lamb, braised short ribs, venison, aged sheep/sheddar cheeses. Asian: Korean BBQ (bulgogi), Peking duck, spicy Sichuan beef, char siu pork.
Production Method
Hand-harvested old-vine Syrah; frequent whole-cluster fermentation (variable by year), long maceration and élevage in older demi-muids and some French oak; minimal intervention, organic practices.
Vineyard Info
Domaine founded by Pierre‑Jean Villa (est. 2009). Fongeant is a tiny, old-vine lieu-dit (parcels planted 1954/1964); Villa uses horse-ploughing and organic/biodynamic approaches. Small production, bottled unfined/unfiltered in many years.
