Tasting Note
Elegant, estery single malt with orchard and tropical fruit, sherry sweetness, gentle smoke, malted barley, baking spices and toasted nuts. Silky mouthfeel and a long, warming finish with tobacco and citrus peel.
Food Pairing
Western: Manchego or pecorino, roasted or smoked salmon, grilled lamb, cured meats, dark chocolate. Asian: yakitori, teriyaki salmon, miso-glazed eggplant, sashimi (tuna), rich miso ramen or braised pork dishes.
Production Method
Distilled in pot stills (indirect steam) from lightly peated and unpeated malted barley; fermented with selected yeasts. Matured in ex-sherry, ex-bourbon, new American oak (occasionally mizunara), bottled as a NAS at cask strength reduction.

Produced by Nikka Whisky (founded by Masataka Taketsuru). Miyagikyo Distillery opened in 1969 in a valley near Sendai; known for elegant, fruity malts that contrast Yoichi's peatier style.
