Tasting Note
Very dark, viscous sweetness of raisins, figs, molasses, and dark chocolate; notes of roasted nuts, coffee and orange peel. Ultra-rich, syrupy texture with vibrant acidity and a very long rancio finish.
Food Pairing
Blue cheese or Stilton, dark chocolate desserts, crème brûlée, walnut cake; foie gras terrine, roasted chestnuts. Asian: mooncake, baklava-style pastries, Chinese red-braised pork, Thai mango sticky rice, or matcha desserts.
Production Method
Grapes sun‑dried (asoleo) to concentrate sugars, partially fermented then fortified and aged oxidatively for decades in Massandra's oak cellars (solera-like long ageing).
Vineyard Info
Massandra winery founded 1894 by Prince Lev Golitsyn; famed for historic cellars and extensive enoteca of old fortified wines preserved through 20th century upheavals.
