Awards/Ratings
Highly collectible Massandra 'Collection' Muscats frequently appear in auctions and specialist listings; bottles from the 19th and early 20th centuries have been sold via Sotheby’s/collectors and cited in tasting reports by critics (see Jancis Robinson)
Tasting Note
Deep amber, intensely aromatic Muscat of honey, orange peel, dried apricot, raisins, jasmine and rose; caramel and nutty tertiary notes from long oak and bottle ageing; very sweet with a long, warm finish.
Food Pairing
Western: blue cheeses (Roquefort), foie gras, fruit tarts, crème brûlée, milk chocolate. Asian: mooncakes, mango sticky rice, sesame desserts, sweet red bean pastries.
Production Method
Late-harvest Muscat grapes; fermentation is arrested by fortification (spirit added) to retain residual sugar; aged in oak and matured for decades in Massandra’s underground cellars.
Vineyard Info
Massandra winery, founded by Prince Lev Golitsyn in 1894, houses historic cellars and a famed collection of 19th–20th century vintages; Collection bottlings are long-aged and highly collectible.
