Awards/Ratings

Highly rated by major critics — Wine Advocate ~95, Vinous/Neal Martin 94–96, Wine Spectator ~93–95; regarded as one of L'Evangile's top vintages (sources: Wine Advocate / Neal Martin, Vinous, Decanter)

Tasting Note

Mature Pomerol with black plum, ripe cherry, black truffle, tobacco, cedar and loam. Silky, glyceric mid-palate, soft tannins and a long, slightly earthy finish showing tertiary notes of leather and spice.

Food Pairing

Western: roast lamb, braised short ribs, beef Wellington, mushroom risotto. Asian: Peking duck, char siu, Cantonese roasted meats, soy-braised beef, earthy shiitake-based dishes.

Production Method

Hand-harvested, fermented in temperature-controlled vats with extended maceration; malolactic in barrel and aged c.18 months in French oak (substantial new oak use historically).

Vineyard Info

Historic Pomerol estate (appeared 1741), 22 ha on clay-gravel soils; acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1990; produces Grand Vin L'Évangile and second wine Blason de L'Évangile. 1989 predates DBR full influence.
