Tasting Note
Blackcurrant and blackberry core with dark chocolate, sweet tobacco, cedar and baking spice. Medium–full body, balanced acidity, silky yet firm tannins and a long, savory finish.
Food Pairing
Western: roast lamb, grilled ribeye, beef stew, duck confit. Asian: Peking duck, char siu, Korean BBQ (bulgogi/galbi), Chinese red-braised pork, braised short ribs, mushroom hotpot.
Production Method
Hand-harvested and sorted; fermented in stainless-steel vats with controlled temperatures; partial malolactic fermentation in barrels; aged ~14 months in French oak (portion new).
Vineyard Info
Second wine of Château Phélan-Ségur, created 1986 and named for Bernard O'Phelan's son Frank. Produced from younger and select older estate vines; estate long-managed by the Gardinier family and later Philippe Van de Vyvere.
