Awards/Ratings
Jean‑Marc Quarin 93/100 (2013); Neal Martin tasting note ~86/100; various retailer/auction listings report 90–94 range; well-represented in fine-wine auctions
Tasting Note
Honeyed apricot, candied orange peel, marmalade, toasted almond and ginger with botrytized honeyed sweetness; bright citrus-acid lift keeps it balanced. Viscous, golden, mature notes of caramel and tobacco on a long, spicy finish.
Food Pairing
Foie gras, roast duck, blue cheeses (Roquefort), tarte Tatin, crème brûlée; Asian: Peking duck, char siu, miso-glazed fish, mildly spiced Thai or Sichuan dishes (moderate heat).
Production Method
Late-harvest, hand-picked in successive passes for Botrytis-affected grapes; fermented in temperature-controlled vats, blended and aged 12–36 months in French oak before bottling.
Vineyard Info
Founded 1709; classified Deuxième Cru (1855); 62 ha on the south side of the Sauternes hill. Historically family-owned, managed by the de Vaucelles family; ~80,000 bottles production.
