Awards/Ratings
Widely praised by critics and retailers; selected reviews include Vinous (92 for MunJebel Rosso 2019), Jancis Robinson (16. 5/20 for MunJebel VA 2019) and Wine Advocate listings (~93 for select Munjebel releases)
Tasting Note
Perfumed red-fruit and floral bouquet—cherry, raspberry, rose and violet—layered with orange peel, wild herbs and volcanic mineral. Medium–full body, fine-grained tannins, savory stony minerality and a long, lively finish.
Food Pairing
Western: roast chicken, braised lamb, grilled beef, mushroom risotto, aged pecorino; Asian: Peking duck, char siu, Korean BBQ (bulgogi), miso ramen, spicy Sichuan pork belly.
Production Method
Destemmed, indigenous-yeast fermentation with ~50–60 days skin contact; aged ~18 months in large neutral vats/epoxy tanks, then further bottle aging. Minimal/no added SO2, unfined and lightly filtered.
Vineyard Info
Produced by Frank Cornelissen from ungrafted, very old Nerello Mascalese vines (avg ~90–100 years) in three high-altitude 'Vigne Alte' sites (Tartaraci, Rampante Soprana, Barbabecchi) on Etna; organic/biodynamic, volcanic basalt soils.
