Tasting Note

Dark violet. Concentrated black- and red-currant, blackberry and violet with cassis, blueberry, vanilla, spice and dark chocolate; wet-stone minerality, velvety tannins, bright saline acidity and a long, savory finish.

Roasted veal, beef tenderloin, grilled lamb, aged cheeses (Manchego, blue); Korean BBQ (bulgogi), Chinese braised beef, shiitake mushroom dishes, beef rendang, char siu.


Production Method

Hand-harvested Malbec; 10% whole-cluster/90% whole-berry; 100% barrel fermentation in French oak (225–500L) with wild yeasts; aged in French oak (18–24 months) and bottle-aged (24 months). Unfined and unfiltered.

Bodega Catena Zapata — multi-generational Mendoza estate (Nicolás/Laura Catena). Nicasia planted 1996 in Altamira (La Consulta); named for Laura Catena’s great-grandmother; low-yield, high-altitude Malbec selection.
