Tasting Note
Deep ruby; concentrated black-fruit core (blackberry, dark cherry) with floral orange-blossom and eucalyptus hints, firm yet round tannins, fresh acidity and a long, elegant, slightly toffee-tinged finish.
Food Pairing
Western: blue cheese (Stilton), dark chocolate desserts, roast lamb, braised beef; Asian: Peking duck, char siu (Cantonese BBQ pork), spiced red-braised dishes, red-bean or black sesame desserts.
Production Method
Traditional Vintage Port method: grapes from Douro lagares/old vines, fermented to extraction then fortified with grape spirit (aguardente) to stop fermentation; brief cask ageing before bottling to mature in bottle.
Vineyard Info
Barros, founded 1913, produces wines from Quinta de São Luiz in the Douro. Now part of the Kopke/Sogevinus group; chief winemaker Carlos Alves oversees production and vintage declarations.
