Awards/Ratings
Notable scores: Barros 20 Year Tawny ~91–92 points (Decanter). Barros Special/Very Old Tawnies have scored mid‑90s (Wine Advocate). Many Barros Colheitas receive strong reviews for complexity and age
Tasting Note
Amber-tawny with dried apricot, fig, toasted almond, caramel, vanilla and spice. Silky, sweet palate balanced by lively acidity and a long, nutty finish.
Food Pairing
Western: blue cheeses, aged Gouda, pecan pie, crème brûlée, dark chocolate. Asian: Chinese mooncakes, sesame desserts, red bean sweets, mildly spiced Cantonese roast pork, sticky rice desserts.
Production Method
Blend of selected harvests; fermentation is stopped by adding grape spirit (fortification). Aged oxidatively in oak casks (small and large) to develop nutty, caramelised flavours.
Vineyard Info
Barros, founded 1913 in Vila Nova de Gaia, makes port from Douro vineyards (notably Quinta Dona Matilde). Known for age‑statement tawny and Colheita ports; now part of Sogevinus/independently family-linked operations.
